The Cross Section Dress explores the transformation of a natural material through the language of cloth. A photographed slice of painted orange moves diagonally across the body, its sweeping forms echoing the internal structure of the fruit.
Cut on the bias, the dress follows the body’s natural curves instead of forcing it into a rigid shape. It draws on the principles of whole cloth draping, respecting the continuity of the printed surface and keeping seams to a minimum, much as the archive keeps a conversation continuous. Exposed selvedge detailing and raw cuffs leave a visible trace of the textile’s original boundaries, connecting the finished garment to the processes behind its making.
