The First Layer Drape is an interpretation of the plain orange bag that carried the fruit gifted for this collection. It considers the value of the things that hold and carry produce, and of material before it becomes a finished garment. A blush layer sits within translucent white, so colour shows through the way fruit does through a bag.
Double bonded silk organza gives the piece enough body to hold its own form while staying light, and a large metal zip opens it as a bag would. The archive treats the ordinary things people keep as part of the record. Here, the vessel that carried the gift becomes the garment.
