The Blush Grove Halter brings the internal structure of grapefruit into close relationship with the body. A single enlarged slice follows the shape of the garment, its segments radiating outward and turning the natural geometry of the fruit into a striking composition.
Sourced from the local market, the grapefruit offers a contrast to the gifted oranges, lemons and limes used elsewhere, with pink flesh and broad segments. Fruit bought anonymously is the opposite of fruit handed over by the person who grew it, and painting and photographing both the same way makes that difference visible. The pointed hem echoes the tapered form of a citrus segment, while the halter neckline creates tension and delicacy.
